Preview

The Sacramento Athletics close out the regular season stretch at home Wednesday night, hosting the Los Angeles Angels at Sutter Health Park for a 9:40 PM ET first pitch. Jeffrey Springs gets the ball for the A's, squaring off against Angels right-hander Walbert Ureña in what shapes up as a late-September matchup with implications for both clubs wrapping up their 2026 campaigns. This one airs on NBCSCA and ABTV locally, with Talk 650 KSTE carrying the radio call.

Starting Pitchers: Jeffrey Springs vs. Walbert Ureña

Jeffrey Springs draws the Wednesday night assignment for Sacramento. Springs gives the A's a left-handed presence at the top of the rotation, and how he manages the Angels' lineup through the middle innings will set the tone for this game. The bullpen has plenty of work to do in a long September, so Springs eating innings matters here.

Ureña gets the nod for Los Angeles. The right-hander will be making his case to close out the season strong, and Sacramento's lineup will need to be ready from the jump. Neither pitcher's current statistical lines are available heading into tonight, so the matchup will speak for itself once the first pitch flies.

Keys to Watch

Handle Trout

Mike Trout hits second for Los Angeles. Regardless of where the Angels sit in the standings, Trout in the lineup is a threat that Sacramento's pitching staff cannot take lightly. Springs and the bullpen need a plan for him every single at-bat.

Butler and Langeliers Must Produce Early

Lawrence Butler batting second and Shea Langeliers in the three-hole gives the A's a legitimate run-producing core in the middle of this order. If those two can get something going against Ureña early, Sacramento has the depth in the lineup — McNeil at cleanup, Gelof at five — to make it count.

Gelof at the Corner

Zack Gelof sliding into the five-hole at third base is worth tracking. His at-bats against Ureña could be a factor late in the game if Sacramento finds itself needing to scratch runs across.

Prediction

This is a home game at Sutter Health Park late in the regular season, and the A's lineup has enough in it to give Ureña problems. If Springs is on and the A's offense gets something going early through Butler and Langeliers, Sacramento takes this one. Athletics 5, Angels 3.
